Exelon oral solution is used to treat confusion (dementia) related to Alzheimer's disease and Parkinson's disease. This medication works by restoring the brain's balance of natural substances (neurotransmitters). It does not cure either of these diseases but may improve memory, awareness, and the ability to perform daily functions.
Take Exelon oral solution only as directed by your doctor. Read and follow the instructions carefully. It is best to take this medicine with food.
Exelon oral solution works best when it is taken at regularly spaced times, usually two times a day, in the morning and evening.
If you are using the Exelon oral solution:
Measure your dose with the dosing syringe that comes with the package.
You may swallow directly from the syringe or mix the medicine with a small glass of water, soda, or cold fruit juice before taking it. You may use the mixture for up to 4 hours.
Before taking Exelon oral solution, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially of: breathing/lung problems, stomach/intestinal problems, heart problems, fainting, seizures, problems urinating and if you are allergic to it or have any other allergies. This product may contain inactive ingredients, which can cause allergic reactions or other problems.
Exelon may cause a condition affecting heart rhythm and can rarely cause serious fast/irregular heartbeat and other symptoms that need immediate medical attention.
This drug may make you dizzy or drowsy. Alcohol or marijuana (cannabis) can make you more dizzy or drowsy. Do not drive, use machinery, or do anything that needs alertness until you can do it safely. Limit alcoholic beverages. Talk to your doctor if you are using marijuana (cannabis).
During pregnancy, this medication should be used only when needed. Consult your doctor before breastfeeding.
