Betagan Eye Drops is a prescription medication used to treat the symptoms of Open-angle Glaucoma. Betagan belongs to a class of drugs called Beta-Blockers. Betagan Eye drops may be used alone or with other medications.

Ask your doctor or pharmacist to show you the correct way to instill the Betagan Eye Drops. To apply Betagan Eye Drops:

• Wash your hands well before you use the drops.
• Remove the cap.
• Tilt your head back a little and pull the lower lid of your eye out to form a pocket.
• Hold the bottle upside down near your eye.
• Apply enough pressure to the container to release one drop into your eye.
• Close your eye for a minute or two, and press gently on the side of your nose where the corner of your eye meets your nose. It helps to stop the drop from draining away and keeps it in your eye.
• Repeat the process in your other eye if you have been told to use the drops in both eyes.
• Replace the cap.
• Please do not touch the dropper tip or let it touch your eye or any other surface to avoid contamination.

Before you begin Betagan Eye Drops, inform your doctor of any medical conditions or allergies, medications you are taking, whether you are pregnant or breastfeeding, and any other significant facts about your health. These factors may affect how you should use this medication.

Allergies: This medication should be used with caution by anyone with a known allergy to other beta-blockers.

Medical conditions included:

• Abnormally low heart rates.
• Certain abnormal heart rhythms.
• Uncontrolled congestive heart failure.
• Asthma.
• Severe chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

Betagan Eye Drops more common side effects included:

• temporary burning/stinging of the eye, 
• itchy/red eyes,
• headache, or
• dizziness.

Tell your doctor right away if you have any serious side effects, including

• eye pain/swelling/discharge,
• reduced feeling in the eye,
• slow/irregular heartbeat,
• muscle weakness,
• hair loss,
• mental/mood changes,
• vision changes,
• tiredness,
• swelling of the ankles/feet,
• sudden/unexplained weight gain.

How should you use Betagan Eye Drops?

Usually, Betagan Eye Drops are instilled once or twice a day. Use Betagan Eye Drops as directed.

Can glaucoma be cured with Betagan Eye Drops?

Betagan Eye Drops control glaucoma but does not cure it. Continue to use Betagan Eye Drops even if you feel well.

Who should not take Betagan Eye Drops?

You should not use Betagan Eye Drops if you have asthma, severe COPD, slow heartbeats, or a heart condition called "AV block."

What side effects can Betagan Eye Drops cause?

• Burning or stinging in the eye
• Drainage from the eye
• Redness, swelling, or itching of the eye and eyelid may occur.
