Desowen Cream is used to treat various skin conditions. It reduces the swelling, itching and redness in these conditions. Desonide is a mild corticosteroid.
Desowen Cream is usually applied two to four times a day. Apply it at around the same times every day. Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully, and ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain any part you do not understand. Use Desowen Cream exactly as directed.
Your skin condition should improve during the first two weeks of your treatment with the cream and the first four weeks with the gel or foam. Call your doctor if your symptoms do not improve during this time.
Shake the lotion well before each use to mix the medication evenly. Avoid use in the genital and rectal areas, skin creases, and armpits unless directed by your doctor.
To use Desowen Cream, apply a small amount of cream to cover the affected skin area with a thin, even film and rub it in gently.
If you are applying desonide to a child's diaper area, do not cover the area with tight-fitting diapers or plastic pants.
Do not wrap or bandage the treated area unless your doctor tells you to. Such use may increase side effects.
Before taking Desowen Cream,
It is not known whether Desowen will harm an unborn baby. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant.

Do not give this medicine to a child without medical advice. Children can absorb larger amounts of this medicine through the skin and may be more likely to have side effects.
Desowen Cream's common side effects include stinging, burning, itching, irritation, dryness, or redness may occur when applied to the skin. As your body adjusts to the medication, this should disappear in a few days.
Tell your doctor immediately if you have any serious side effects, including stretch marks, skin thinning/discoloration, acne, excessive hair growth, and small red bumps on the skin (folliculitis).
Skin infections can become worse when using this medication. Notify your doctor promptly if redness, swelling or irritation does not improve.
